The small pocket device houses a sim card and emits a wifi signal with a radius of 10m allowing you to connect all your wifi enabled gadgets to the net such as your phone, laptop, ipod touch etc.
Currently the ownly provider of mobile wifi is 3 mobile, but T-mobile are expected to launch in early October 2009. The 3 mobile service is available on a 5Gb data allowance on a 'no ties' rolling monthly contract costing £15 a month. With the 3 mobile deal you have to buy the mobile wifi device upfront which costs £69.99. T-Mobile have a different strategy and will offer the device free but users will have to sign up for a fixed 18 month contract (£20/month) which will include 3 GB data allowance.
Mobile wifi is a much awaited service in the UK after its popularity on the continent. Businesses can benefit hugely as demonstrated by the take up of mobile wifi devices by the Dutch railways. Mobile Wifi allows them to remotely interact with their workers and also allowing to provide live news services to its passengers.
